It’s not too late to stock up on flu and cold remedies.

Be ready for cold and flu season: prioritize rest, maintain a healthy diet, and stay emotionally balanced. Prepare now for the best results.

Dose, Dose, Dose, is My Mantra

I’m practical and love having tools ready. The medicine woman in me must be prepared. The best way to fend off a cold or flu is to act at the first sign. Dose, dose, dose—that’s my mantra. In my opinion, people often err here. When you first feel off, grab the flu and cold remedies of your choice. A quick, easy, and effective go-to is Oscillococcinum, a homeopathic over-the-counter gem from Boiron. Keep a tube in your purse or glove box. You only need one dose every 5–6 hours.

A Hydrosol for Immune Support

Another staple for me is Sovereign Silver, a bioactive silver hydrosol for immune support. I prefer the spray—30 spritzes under the tongue, hold for 30 seconds. For building immunity, use 3 times daily. For maintenance, use once daily. It supports bacterial and viral issues.   I’ve always avoided antibiotics, using this, even with my daughter (now 27). Of course, use antibiotics when necessary.

The Power of Vitamin C

When choosing flu and cold remedies, don't miss this one: Vitamin C with Bioflavonoids, my top antioxidant for prevention and care. Bioflavonoids—the compounds in citrus pith—boost Vitamin C absorption significantly. Take at the first sign of a scratchy throat for faster recovery and milder symptoms. Bioflavonoids also help zinc enter cells and curb viral replication. Check supplement labels for this added support—it helps maintain vascular health and fight fatigue.

A Few More for Your Medicine Chest

Another favorite is Umcka Cold & Flu Relief by Nature’s Way, excellent for shortening and easing coughs, congestion, sore throat, and nasal and bronchial irritation. This soothing syrup is especially helpful at the onset. For an added boost of antioxidants, Vitamin C, and flavonoids, look for the one with Elderberry.

Umcka, Herbal Expec, and Koflet

For stubborn cold symptoms, try Naturade’s Herbal Expect to clear nasal passages and promote easier breathing and sleep. We also like Koflet Lozenges by Himalaya Wellness—a potent herbal formula supporting bronchial function and immunity.

Essential Oils from Turtle Moon

Many essential oils combat bacteria and viruses. I blend cinnamon, clove flower, eucalyptus, rosemary, and green lemon—a version inspired by a plague-era formula. Our concentrate or spray, called Essential Protection, is used on the body, surfaces, or in the air. I spray it on high-touch surfaces and my hands when washing isn’t possible. It’s convenient for travel, hospitals, and crowded places. Prevention is key—I find it very effective at limiting viral and bacterial spread. I never leave home without it!

I also offer a Medicine Chest Kit featuring 5 essential oils for common ailments. An index card lists 58 ailments with recommended oils, while longer instructions are on the flipside. The kit comes in a pouch for easy carrying. Get acquainted with the contents so you’re ready when needed.

Why does the kit matter for this season? Two oils included—Eucalyptus Radiata and Lavender Mailette—are gentle and effective, whether for prevention or during illness. Eucalyptus soothes congestion, asthma, bronchitis, coughs, and sore throats. Use by inhaling or massaging over the chest and back. Lavender is a versatile oil: antiseptic, soothes burns, headaches, agitation, and calms nerves or stomach. It’s gentle for pregnancy and safe for children. Apply 1–2 drops directly; rub on feet to relax or induce sleep, or on the wrist for emotional support. Both these oils are also sold separately on this website.

From Our Honey Bee Hives

Turtle Moon's Propolis Spray is an ideal winter remedy—a "beekeeper’s formula" for seasonal defense. This 33% tincture harnesses antioxidants and flavonoids to support immune function. It works best at symptom onset, using antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties to soothe sore throats and fight pathogens. Pack it into your daily routine to boost oral hygiene and fortify against winter bugs.

Stop Germs Before They Enter Your Body

A key secret for staying well is protecting the "entry points." Think of your nostrils as the front door to your respiratory system—most germs enter there. That’s why I never leave home without our Essential Salve | Nasal Balm.

This salve acts as a physical shield. Apply a small amount inside your nostrils to form a moisture barrier that protects delicate mucous membranes from dryness and germs. Dry membranes are more vulnerable to microscopic tears and viral entry. The salve delivers antiseptic essential oils right where they're needed, adding defense against airborne germs. It’s like putting a 'no vacancy' sign on your immune system.

We offer two balm formulas to suit your preference. The silver tin holds our savory, potent "Essential Protection" blend. Prefer something brighter? The gold tin holds our citrusy, uplifting "Purification" blend. Both are made with organic virgin coconut oil, jojoba, and beeswax, making them gentle and healing for skin.

Beyond its germ-blocking role, this salve soothes and protects dry, irritated skin. It effectively treats chapped lips, cracked cuticles, and minor skin irritations by creating a protective barrier that speeds healing. Compact enough to carry anywhere, it helps shield vulnerable skin in public spaces like stores or on flights. Using it keeps the skin around your nose and mouth healthy and hydrated, adding a practical layer to your seasonal defense.

Herbal Teas from Turtle Moon

Last, drink our herbal teas. Our Winter Herbal Tea tones and strengthens organs over time, supporting immunity and health. VirusProof Herbal Tea can be purchased alone or bundled with Propolis Spray and Essential Protection. Use at onset, paired with a hot Epsom salt bath. Drink in the tub and go right to bed. The diaphoretic effect helps drive out illness by morning. It works!

Cultivating Your Inner Fire and Peace

Beyond the remedies we keep, remember that your body’s foundation is built from the inside out. In these colder months, I lean heavily into warming, nutrient-dense nutrition. Since nearly 80% of our immune system is housed in the gut, I prioritize bone broths, fermented foods, and easy-to-digest meals. These "slow medicines" keep your internal terrain strong and ready to defend. Feeding your body warming foods is like stoking the coals of your internal furnace—it keeps your energy high and your defenses steady through the frost.

We must also respect the profound link between our minds and our immunity. Chronic stress and fear can act like a "dimmer switch" on our natural defenses. This is why I consider Lavender Mailette more than just a pleasant scent—it is a vital tool for emotional resilience. By taking five minutes at the end of a long day to simply breathe and ground yourself with its calming notes, you signal to your nervous system that it is safe to shift into "rest and repair" mode.

Ultimately, being prepared is about reclaiming your power. When you have your remedies within reach, you are no longer a victim of the season; you are the proactive guardian of your well-being.
